QUICK ANSWER
AI Token Calculator
An AI token calculator estimates the text-token cost of an AI request. Enter the input tokens, expected output tokens, request count, and the exact model’s current rates. Calculate input and output charges separately, then add them together. The provider’s recorded usage determines the final billed amount.
How the estimate is calculated
Multiply input tokens by the model’s input rate and output tokens by its output rate, using the billing unit published by the provider. Add those two charges for one request, then multiply by the expected number of requests. Cached input may have a separate rate when the provider documents one.
Why the exact model matters
Models from the same provider can use different prices and context limits. Rates may also change, so a useful estimate identifies the model and links to a current provider pricing source instead of applying one rate to every AI model.
What the estimate may not include
Plain-text token cost is not always the complete API charge. Depending on the provider and request, images, audio, tools, web search, stored prompts, batch processing, or other features may be priced separately. Check the applicable provider documentation before using an estimate as a budget.
Count first, then calculate
Use the OpenAI Token Counter when you need a text count for an OpenAI encoding. Use the Token Cost Kit homepage to compare token-based costs across models. Read Counter Token when the phrase itself is unclear.
